Nashville, Tennessee, August 20, 2004 -The Tennessee Technology Center at Elizabethton today received the highest award given this year for Workforce Investment Act Exceptional Training Providers. The award was presented by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) at the annual performance workshop held by the workforce investment section of THEC. The TTC at Elizabethton was the number one Exceptional Training Provider in Tier 1. Institutions are assigned to a tier depending on how many students they enrolled, and tier 1 includes institutions serving 150 or more students. The TTC at Elizabethton trained 216 Workforce Investment Act students with a success score of 73.77%. That score indicates that students had a 73.77% chance of completing their program at the TTC at Elizabethton and later receiving a job placement.
Receiving the award from Dr. Rosevelt L. Noble, director of WIA, pictured left, were; Roberta Bowers, assistant director, and Mike Cole, student services coordinator, at the annual THEC performance workshop held in Nashville on Friday.
According to James King , Tennessee Board of Regents Vice Chancellor for Technology Centers, " Elizabethton's success in job training through WIA is an example of the Tennessee Technology Centers' ability to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of their service areas and the communities in which they live."
The Tennessee Board of Regents is the nation's sixth largest higher education system, governing 45 post-secondary educational institutions. The TBR system includes six universities, 13 two-year colleges and 26 technology centers, providing programs in 90 of Tennessee's 95 counties to over 180,000 students.
